Biodata of Dr. Nirmaljit Singh Dhaliwal

Dr. Nirmaljit Singh Dhaliwal

Dr. Nirmaljit Singh Dhaliwal born on 17 Oct, 1962 at village Beehlewala (district: Faridkot). He completed his schooling from Khalsa High School Faridkot. He started his BSc from PAU Ludhiana in year 1979. After graduation he started his MSc (Economics) from PAU Ludhiana and completed in year 1987.

He has joined as District Extension Specialist (Farm Management) in Farm Advisory Service Scheme at Ferozepur on dated 1st April, 1989. Then he served at FASS Faridkot in the month of October,1992. Then he pursued Ph.D degree from Guru Nanak dev University, Amritsar which was completed in 2004. After serving 16 years and 2 months in scheme FASS he was selected as Dy Director (Trg) KVK Mukktsar on 1st june,2005. on 1st January, 2009 he was promoted as Associate Director (Trg). He served PAU, Ludhiana for a long period of 33 years and 7 months.

During his service he was engaged in field surveys pertaining to various topical issues related with socio- economic problems of rural Punjab and as a result published 236 reports. During this period, he published 48 research papers, 75 extension/popular articles, five success stories, 60 bulletins, one book, book chapter and one training manual.

  1. New Findings, Recommendations:
    1. New deficiency of Magnesium in cotton identified:

      The recommendation regarding control of Magnesium deficiency in cotton included in the package and practice for kharif 2014 first time approved by REC. Research Evaluation Committee meeting held on 7 th August, 2014 acknowledged the feedback given by me. (Ref. to D.O. No.6171 dated 21-8-2014 of Head deptt of Agronomy). I have been involved in identification and testing.

    2. New method of scheduling of nitrogen in short duration paddy identified:

      Involved in development of nitrogen scheduling in short duration paddy varieties (PR 124 and PR 126): Apply 1/3rd nitrogen up to 1 st weeks after transplanting and remaining 2/3rd in two equal splits at 3 rd and 5 th weeks after transplanting approved by Research Evaluation Committee (272 nd meeting held on 8/02/19) for inclusion in Package and Practice of kharif 2019. The feedback submitted by me on 22.01.2016

    3. New weed in cotton identified:

      Research evaluation committee (277 th meeting held on 14/02/2020) has recommended the first selective post-emergence herbicide for broad-spectrum weed control in cotton for inclusion in Package and Practice of kharif 2020 crops of Punjab. The feed back on problem of Ipomia in cotton was submitted by me.

    4. Application of basal dose of Magnesium Sulphate for control of Magnesium deficiency in cotton:

      Research Evaluation Committee (289 th meeting held on 22/02/2022) has recommended the application of basal dose of Magnesium Sulphate (25 kg/ acre) followed by foliar sprays of Potassium Nitrate and Magnesium Sulphate in cotton. This recommendation was included in Package and Practice of kharif 2022 crops of Punjab. I was involved in planning, execution and coordinated the conduct of experiments.

  2. Administrative experience : 17 years

    Acted as Dy./Assoc. Director (Training) of KVK Muktsar Used Adminstrative and financial power of Drawing and Disbursing officer at KVK Muktsar for ICAR schemes, Revolving Fund schemes and other project handled in the capacity of PI/Co-PI since January 25, 2006 to 31 October, 2022. Order issued by DEE Endst. No. DE.I/06/4373-77 dated 25-01-2006. Additional charge of PAU Model High School Kauni held from 8-02-2017 to 12-12-2021.

  3. Distinctions/Fellowship/Awards:

    Farm Literature Popularization Awards : 26.
    Farm literature is one of the important tools in transfer of agricultural technology among the farmers. He played an active role in dissemination of knowledge through popularization of farm literature. He has received 26 Farm Literature Popularization Awards during PAU Kisan Melas.
    Honoured on 15 th August 2013 at the occasion of Independence Day Appreciation letter: 15
    Awarded: Fellow, Society of Krishi Vigyan-2018
    Awarded : Nanaji Deshmukh ICAR award for outstanding interdisciplinary team research in agricultural and allied sciences-2019.
    Awarded : Life Time Achievement Award from Society of Krishi Vigyan.

  4. Project Handled:

    He remained incharge/member of cotton development project programme in 1997/2004/Lab to land programme. He has handled a project under Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme in Faridkot for guiding the farmers to keep proper farm records. Acted as Project Investigator of cotton project entitled” Improvement in productivity and production of cotton crop in the Punjab State” from kharif 2008 to kharif 2011 with budget outlay of Rs. 102.12 lakh, Co- Project Investigator of project plant health clinic with budget outlay of Rs. 20.00 lakh, acted as Co-ordinator of project on Bee Keeping Training Project funded by National Horticulture Mission from 2014-15 to 2015-16 with budget outlay of Rs.5.40 lakh, acted as Co- Project Investigator of two projects PAU-PI, PAU-BCS collaborative project with budget out lay of Rs. 1832500/- and Rs. 3118200/- respectively, acted as Principal Investigator of Project proposal entitled“Fodder and livestock based farming system based approach for livelihood improvement of SC farmer” submitted to ICAR-Indian Grassland & fodder research institute, Jhansi with budget outlay of Rs.11.90 lakh from 2019-20 to 2021-22. He has imlemented project of promotion on agricultural Mechanization for In-situ management of crop residue in the state of Punjab KVK Muktsar from 2018-19 to 2022-23. In this project 17 training programme (5 days) were organised for farmers of adopted villages. Extensive training programmes were provided to farmers at village/block level for use of CRM machinery.

    He has put rigorous efforts to promote Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) technology in Muktsar district; the area under Direct Seeded Rice/Basmati increased to approximately 70,000 hectares in the district. He has generated revolving fund amounting to Rs. 146.60 lakh.
